- 1Swipe up
Open your story and swipe up on the screen to open the list.
- 2The count
The number of views of that photo or video, replays included.
- 3The names
The usernames of the accounts that viewed it.
- 4Facebook
If you shared the story to Facebook, its viewers there are further down.
Yes. Instagram's help page puts it plainly: open your story and swipe up, and you see the number and the usernames of the people who viewed each photo or video. Only you can see that list, and it stays open for 48 hours after you post. Each numbered part of the screen above has its own section below. This guide is part of the Stories section of the blog.
1 Opening the list

Open your story the way anyone would, by tapping your profile picture, then swipe up on the screen. The list belongs to the photo or video on screen, so a story made of several parts has a list for each part.
2 The count

The number at the top counts views, not people. Instagram's help page says the count includes all the replays of your story, so the number can be higher than the number of usernames when the same account watched more than once.
3 The names
Below the count are the usernames of the accounts that viewed the story, each listed once. Instagram has not published how it orders that list; the story viewer order page covers what the order does and does not tell you.
4 Viewers on Facebook
If you shared the story to Facebook as well, Instagram's help page says to scroll down the same list to see who saw it on Facebook.
5 After 24 hours

A story leaves your profile after 24 hours, but the list stays open for 48. Instagram's help page gives the route:
- 1
Go to your profile
Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
In the appProfile - 2
Open the menu
Tap Menu in the top right.
In the appMenu - 3
Open Archive
Below How you use Instagram, tap Archive.
In the appArchive - 4
Find the story
Scroll to the story, tap it and swipe up on the screen.
What the list never shows

Everyone who saw my story is on the list.
The list and the count leave out Instagram Plus subscribers who previewed the story, according to Instagram's help page.
Someone took a screenshot, so it will show.
The viewer list shows a count and usernames. Screenshots are not among the things the help page says it shows.
A viewer site will show up too.
A list needs an account; anyone who watched a public story through a viewer without signing in has no account to list.
I can see the list a week later.
The list stays open for 48 hours after posting, then it closes.
The screenshot question has its own guide: does Instagram notify when you screenshot a story. For stories you keep longer than a day, see Can You See Who Viewed Your Highlights on Instagram? and Close Friends on Instagram: Who Sees Your Green Stories.
